Hot Las Vegas summer hotel deals

Mandalay Bay Las Vegas

Los Angeles Times staff writer Jane Engle tells us why Vegas is a good vacation bet this summer and offers tips on how to get more bang for your buck when you book your trip. It’s true, summer is a cheap season to visit Sin City, but will this year be cheaper than previous years? Read, “A bet on summer hotel discounts in Las Vegas,” or watch the short video clip.

If you’re ready to spread your towel poolside and sip pina coladas in the cabana, here are some Vegas deals for sun-lovers:

FLAMINGO | Get two nights in a GO Deluxe room, two poolside drinks and a pool gift bag starting at $99 per night (pre-tax). Use promo code “IFPOL” for travel until Aug. 31, 2008. Note: I tested this deal and found rates close to the promo rate midweek in July. The total price came to $238 after taxes and fees (July 15-17). Weekends were higher and prices varied.

LUXOR | Grab some friends for the “Girls’ Night Out” package and you’ll get: free Deluxe Tower room upgrade; free admission to LAX Night Club; $25 dining credit at Fusia; $20 off any 50-minute service from Nurture: the Spa at Luxor; 20% off the “Girls’ Night Out” makeup package from Nurture; $10 off a ticket to the male revue Thunder From Down Under at Excalibur. Visit Las Vegas says that the package starts at $69 per night, but when I checked online, $145 midweek was the lowest rate I found. Promo code “PDGIRL.”

MANDALAY BAY | The “SPF-109 Summer” offer starts at $99.99 per night and runs until Sept. 4, 2008. Pool lovers will enjoy it for all the extra poolside benefits this promotion has to offer: fly back free certificates; $20 in Sand Dollars (credit to be used at the beach); $10 in freeplay or blackjack bet to play in the Beachside Casino; 2-for-1 House of Blues breakfast; $300 saving certificates to Mandalay Place. Read the fine print on the fly back free certificates. Note: When I tested the deal, the lowest rate I found was $110 per night (pre-tax).

MGM GRAND | The “Summer Splash” special promo rate starts at $89 per night and comes with a whole bunch of goodies including $25 dining credit toward summer menus; two complimentary poolside cocktails; two free innertube rentals; $30 per night upgrade to a bungalow suite (based upon availability at check-in); $50 per night upgrade to Celebrity Spa or Hollywood Suite (based upon availability at check-in). The deal was announced this week so when I checked today, I found rates even lower than advertised, at $79 per night (pre-tax).
